Programs & Services

Did you know that you get $4500 each fiscal year,
separate from your GI Bill,
for college classes, certificate programs, and vocational training?

To begin using Tuition Assistance (TA), carefully follow this checklist:

  • College 101 - A required one-hour class that explains all of your USMC education benefits and provides step-by-step guidance on using the online WebTA system.
    • Held face-to-face in the Education Center every Wednesday from 1130-1230. No preregistration needed.
    • Held virtually via WebEx every Thursday from 1130-1230. Register online at EventBrite.
  • General Technical (GT) Score - Your ASVAB GT score must be 100 or above. If you don't have the required GT score there are several other ways you can qualify:
    • Do you have prior college credit? Bring us your transcripts and we may be able to waive the GT score requirement for you.
    • You can take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and if you score a 10.2 or higher you'll be eligible for TA. Come by the Education Center or visit our website for the registration form. There are free TABE study guides available at the Base Library (Bldg. 219).
  • Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) Personal Readiness Seminar (PRS) Survival Skills Course - Go to JKO and complete this training (course number: J30 P-US1395).
    • After completion upload your certificate of completion to your WebTA account and contact us to let us know you've uploaded it.
  • Update Your Contact Info - Once you've completed the above items, access your WebTA account and update your contact info. If your account says "Ineligible", please contact us. We can fix that over the phone.
  • Upload Your Degree Program - Once your school has given you a copy of your degree program (the list of courses you need to take to earn your degree), upload that document to your WebTA account, then contact us and let us know you uploaded it.

Below are some resources to help you choose the best college for you,
but you can also schedule an appointment with one of our Education and Career Specialists
for personalized one-on-one help.

Please refer to the 2021 Examination Schedule for upcoming test dates on MCBH.

  • DLAB/DLPT - The Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB). The Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT
  • OPI - The Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI)
  • AFCT - The Armed Forces Classification Test (AFCT) is the ASVAB test for Active Duty members. Please submit the registration form to reserve a seat for this exam.
  • TABE - The Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) tests your English and Math skills. We use this test primarily for Marines who do not have the required minimum GT score of 100 to qualify for Tuition Assistance. Rather than take the AFCT (ASVAB) you can take the TABE and if you score at least a 10.2 we waive the GT score requirement for TA qualification.
